Introduction To The Department

Program Mission

reparing an outstanding graduate in the chemical engineering field, who is capable of coping with the technological development in the chemical industries via providing an appropriate educational and learning environment, developing and investing in human and material resources as well as caring about applied scientific research to serve the local and regional communities.

Program Objectives

the program has different educational objectives. These objectives were chosen to cover all the diverse areas of chemical engineering. Consequently, this will guarantee that our alumni will be able to fit successfully in any of the chemical engineering fields. The program aims can be summarized as follows: -

•    Significantly expand the educational and academic services provided to students along with developing their capabilities to keep pace with the latest market requirements

•   Continuous training and skill development of the academic staff and the department employee

• Employ all human and material resources in the department to serve the community and develop the surrounding environment.

Link scientific research with the needs of society and encourage applied research.

Area of Study

Chemical engineering is a discipline influencing numerous areas of technology. In broad terms, chemical engineers conceive and design processes to produce, transform, and transport materials. This process begins with experimentation in the laboratory, followed by the implementation of industrial-scale technology. This is reflected in the curriculum of the chemical engineering department, which includes the study of:

Applied Mathematics

Thermodynamics

Physical chemistry and Material Technology

Heat, Mass, and momentum transfer

Separation Technologies and Unit Operations

Chemical Reaction Kinetics and Reactor Design

Process and Vessel Design and Economics

Chemical engineering software, computer programming and process control

Process Safety

Petroleum Engineering

Natural gas treatment and processing

Environmental Engineering

Polymers and Petrochemicals Processing

Modelling and Simulation

Organic and Inorganic Technologies

Career Opportunities:

Chemical engineers are usually in great demand because of the numerous industries that depend on physical and chemical processing. In addition to traditional careers, chemical engineers enjoy increasing opportunities in advanced industries such as, biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, electronic device fabrication, and environmental engineering.
They should be aware of all aspects of the manufacturing process, how it affects the environment and the safety of workers and consumers. Within these industries, chemical engineers rely on their knowledge of mathematics and science, particularly chemistry, to overcome technical problems safely and economically. And, of course, they draw upon and apply their engineering knowledge to solve any technical challenges they encounter.
A graduate of Chemical Engineering Department who follows the Chemical Engineering program can be employed as:

Design Engineer:
who design, maintain, and control equipment and processes for industrial-scale chemical manufacturing

Quality Control Engineer:
Safety Engineer: who develop procedures and design system to protect people and properties.

Process Engineer:
Refinery Engineer responsible for designing, developing and operating oil refineries.
Auditing environmental Engineer: evaluate the environmental impact of the project, write up and present findings and recommend solutions, clean-up process, recycling and waste disposal, in order to fix environmental issues.

Technical Sales Engineer :
Chemical engineers also work in a variety of manufacturing industries other than chemical ones, such as those producing energy, electronics, food, clothing, petrochemicals, pharmaceuticals, and paper, as well as petroleum refining.
In addition, chemical engineers may specialize in a particular chemical process, such as oxidation or polymerization. Others specialize in a particular field, such as Nano-materials.
Specifically, chemical engineers improve food processing techniques, and methods of producing fertilizers, to increase the quantity and quality of available food. They also construct the synthetic fibres that make our clothes more comfortable and water resistant; they develop methods to mass-produce drugs, making them more affordable; and they create safer, more efficient methods of refining petroleum products, making energy and chemical sources more productive and cost-effective
